Baby Sleep System™ Brings Relief to Weary Parents for the Holidays

Patent-Pending WombEffect™ Leads to Faster, Deeper Sleep for Infants

CARLSBAD, Calif. (September 28, 2004) - Thanks to the BabySleep System™ CD, parents and caregivers across the nation will get the best gift of all this holiday season - sound sleep for the entire family.

The result of focused research on newborn sleep disorders - spearheaded by two top performers/audio engineers from the music industry - the BabySleep System enables parents to help their infants fall asleep fast, stay asleep longer and eliminate problems that result from daily sleep interruptions and episodes of crying through the night. The BabySleep System CD is available for $19.95 at www.babysleepsystem.com.

The BabySleep System incorporates a new technology that uses actual audio recordings from the womb, digitally processed to emulate the "underwater" sounds that babies experience before birth. The recording features a delicately balanced mixture of a rested heartbeat, intrauterine womb sounds (blood and fluid movement), a delicate singing voice, gentle breathing, and a carefully constructed low frequency music soundtrack. The entire mix of these sounds is then digitally processed using the proprietary BabySleep System algorithm to simulate how it all sounds underwater.

"As a musician and sound engineer, it occurred to me and our team that if the sound inside the womb could be simulated, an audio 'soundscape' could be created that would induce a great sense of calm, comfort and safety, enabling babies to fall fast asleep and experience deeper sleep for longer periods of time," Jay Oliver, president and co-founder, Sounds in Silence, said.

Studies indicate that simulating the sounds in the womb can help promote better health for newborns. The Sounds in Silence team spent five years of research, experimentation and testing in homes and daycare centers, confirming that exposing infants to a womb-like soundtrack did make a difference. The audio track provided babies with a feeling of safety, calm and comfort. Most fell asleep more quickly and stayed asleep much longer, often through the night.

Applying this discovery, the research team perfected a critical component called "The Womb Effect"™ and then produced an audio CD, layered with a unique ambient audio soundtrack composed and produced by professional musicians, to promote overall relaxation to both the baby and the parent/caregiver. The final product - the BabySleep System CD - has shown consistent results in helping infants, babies and children became calmer, more relaxed and less fussy, even reducing colicky conditions.

"Our CD is not a lullaby product or a set of melodic songs," Oliver continued. "Melodies engage the brain. That's fine if you want your baby to be awake and learning. But if it's 3 a.m. and you've had almost no sleep, you'll do almost anything to help your baby nod off. In fact, melodies and high-pitched 'baby bell' sounds have been shown to actually heighten the baby's state of alertness. When an infant needs to 'turn off' and go to sleep, they need to disconnect and be soothed, which is what the BabySleep System does so well."

This holiday season, Sounds In Silence is also offering a Deluxe Package that includes the SwaddleMe™ Adjustable Infant Wrap from Kiddopotamus. The package will sell on the BabySleep System web site for $33.85.

Many pediatricians recommend swaddling to comfort and soothe babies. SwaddleMe microfleece wings have Velcro tabs that make it easy to wrap a baby correctly and keep them comfortable, as opposed to using regular blankets, which can come loose. As a baby grows, the wings readjust for a perfect fit.

Adding a twist to the BabySleep System story is the fact that two jazz musicians discovered this "audio formula" for infant sleep.

Oliver, a world-class jazz pianist and composer/producer (for such artists as Sheryl Crow, Jimmy Buffett, Celine Dion, The Eagles, Glenn Frey, Chick Corea, Dave Weckl and more) teamed with William Lenihan, an international jazz guitarist and director of Jazz Studies at Washington University in St. Louis, to form Sounds in Silence and create the CD.
